The Possehl Foundation mainly contributes to shaping community life in Lübeck by providing grants and funding. As the shareholder of the European Hansemuseum, the Theatre Puppet Museum and the Lübeck Puppet Theatre it is also responsible for a varied range of cultural activities in the city. In 2003 the Foundation built the Kunsthalle St. Annen, a new space dedicated to modern art in Lübeck, and then donated the building to the City of Lübeck. And since 2018 the two new Possehl Art Prizes have focused on contemporary art and artists.
Since our founder was particularly keen to sponsor the next generation of talented young people, the Foundation now awards annual prizes for outstanding performance to students of the College of Music and Lübeck Technical University.
