Where we come from

The Possehl Foundation is named after the Lübeck businessman and local politician Emil Possehl (1850-1919). In his will he bequeathed his business, L. Possehl & Co. GmbH, to the Possehl Foundation. To this day the Foundation is the sole shareholder of this international group of companies. For 100 years the financial success of the Possehl Group has provided the basis for the Foundation’s work. If the Group were not profitable, the Foundation would not be able to give such substantial support to social institutions, disadvantaged people, the arts and sciences, sport, the UNESCO World Heritage site or young people in Lübeck.
